The Theme of Inequality There are various major themes in ââ¬Å"The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglassâ⬠. One of the most prominent themes in the book is inequality. The theme is dominant due to its real values in the institution of slavery. The theme not only regularly appears in the narrative but is in so many ways interconnected with other themes such as education. Inequality is the most dominant in the narrative. Douglass attempts to reveal how the African American slaves are just like their white counterparts despite the number of times it is revealed how the whites did not consent the slaves as rightly human (Docsouth.unc.edu, 2015). Comparatively, Phyllis spoke on inequality as she lived as an African American slave and recognizes that the stay in America was one of the saddest moments in the history of the country. The poem by Wheatley compares inequality to her journey of becoming a Christian and a slave as well (Wheatley, 2015). This paper attempts to compare the theme of inequality in The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass and On being brought to America by Phyllis Wheatley. The level of treatment for both Douglas and Wheatley in America is an absolute paradox. There are various instances in which it is shown how the whites did not assent slaves as rightly human despite Douglas attempting to reveal how the African American slaves were human beings just like their white counterparts.
